Fruit Soda Bread

Every Irish person grew up consuming soda bread. This is my favourite version and comes from goodfoodireland.ie.

Delicious served with real Irish butter and also a real treat when toasted. It also can be frozen if wrapped well.

Serves: 6-8
Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 400g plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp bread soda
  • 375ml buttermilk
  • 100g raisins

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients, add raisins and then pour in the buttermilk.
  2. Mix to form a dough roll into round shape. Cut a light cross in the top of the dough.
  3. Place the loaf on a baking tray on some greaseproof paper.
  4. Cook in a preheated oven at 170C for 30 minutes. Wrap in a clean tea towel and allow to cool.
